What is Bay State Bike Month?

Every year, Massachusetts residents and bike commuters come together to celebrate human-powered, two-wheeled transportation during Bay State Bike Month (BSBM). In the past we have hosted Bike Month in May, but in 2020 we're moving Bike Month to September, encouraging bicycling from Cape Cod to the Berkshires and everywhere around and in between. We're here to encourage riders throughout the commonwealth to organize bike-centric events to encourage new riders and raise awareness about bicycle transportation.

During this designated month, communities, organizations, and individual organizers are encouraged to host or join one of hundreds of events statewide.

Who hosts Bay State Bike Month?

In year’s past, BSBM was a collaborative effort between several statewide organizations. Now, MassBike, the only statewide bicycle advocacy group, coordinates the event.

How do I plan, organize, and host an event?

Check out the National Bike Month Guide, produced the League of American Bicyclists on tips for starting your event.

The process looks a little different than it has in the past? How do I host or submit an event?

If your event meets the guidelines to be a BSBM event (as long as it has a focus on bicycles!) you can register your event on our official calendar. Submit the form on the website with as much information as you can so that people know where to go when they attend. Having issues submitting an event? Contact MassBike at bikeinfo@massbike.org

Please note that events will not populate to the calendar until they are approved by a site administrator.

Will there still be free Bay State Bike Month gear for my event?

As a benefit for your attendees, we have a limited amount of SWAG (stuff we all get). If you are interested in receiving Bay State Bike Month materials to hand out at your event, please contact us at bikeinfo@massbike.org

Additionally, if you are interested in producing your own giveaway items such as quality bicycle lights, we can assist with logos and graphics, as well as vendor contacts. Please email bikeinfo@massbike.org for assistance or if you have additional questions.
